The Real Cover-Up Going On

August 4, 2009
So, I did not win the cover-up contest, which is cool. That just means we can use the cover-ups I made now instead of holding on to them in case I won. I do not like the winning garments though. There is a starting trend in the comments about how all of the winners and honorable mentions are all thin women. (Besides the two children.) In my opinion none of the ones mentioned would have been winners for me. There were some freaking cute things put together, and below were my favorites to win.

And this was the winner...why? I don't know, this doesn't appeal to me.

Here are all the winners. And here are all the entries. If you are interested.

The Garbo

July 29, 2009

I printed off and used my first online pattern from BurdaStyle. It was the Garbo skirt and it's free. Oh how I love that word...free. So I removed the zipper from it since it called for elastic in the waist and the fabric I chose is a little stretchy anyway. I had been holding on to the fabric for a while. It's beautiful. Light turquoise shimmery material, I guess burned (melted) onto a matte white in a flower pattern.

After the skirt was made I discovered it needed a slip underneath it. I do...

For the sake of it

July 24, 2009

I made two swimsuit cover-ups for a contest on Craftzine. I don't think I will win, and at first I really wanted to place second through fourth so I could win a dress form. Now, even though I'm not going to win I think it was good for me to submit something I have made just for the sake of submitting it. I have a complex about the quality of my crafting, and I don't think it's good enough to sell or enter contests, and barely up to par for gifting. I like the cover-ups I made and will keep an...

Blinded by my sewing machine light

July 9, 2009
New finished projects posted up around site here, here, and here.

I've been crazy distracted by the new sewing club Sew Aiken. Our next meeting is this Saturday and I think actual people might show up this time. And if they do will I drop the ball?

One of my favorite sewing bloggesses to read, Diary of a Sewing Fanatic, has a term she uses called TNT. It stands for Tried N True, as in TNT patterns. I don't have any, I want one, I'm on a mission to find mine.

I'm entering a contest by Singer for ...

Crafters Log 5.28.2009

May 28, 2009
I have finished projects to post, but I have been busy setting up a new local sewing group called Sew Aiken. Even though I plan to move very soon I couldn't help myself. I'm setting everything up so someone else can take over with no trouble at all.

I'm hoping to have the pics for the dress I made for myself and Savana, the skirt for Savana, and the top I made posted by this weekend. The lotto here is at 220,000,000..that's dollars, not pesos my friend. The first thing I daydreamed about pur...

It's sew true

May 15, 2009
Yay! A summer crochet project. Refashioned Crocheted Tank by Dolin O'Shea. You use an old t-shirt to make your own 'yarn'.

Although I still have my dollhouse out it has been pushed to the side of the craft table by peer pressure. Daughter pressure.

Alexis received a sewing machine for her b-day from her Grandma and she kept insisting we get material and supplies so she can make this corset. I haven't used boning in a garment yet, so it should be a learning experience for both of us. The gromme...

Loving a crafter

April 23, 2009
I don't want to start talking politics, but it irks me when I see businesses closing right now. You just know that they haven't lost much money because I see people shopping everywhere. It's just that they aren't making enough money to raise their stock so they decide to close a few stores to continue looking good on paper and make a few rich people richer. So, now Kirkland's in the mall is closing and those people are out of a job. They can't go shopping now, can they? Greedy bastards can't ...

Cubbies and fabric

April 13, 2009
Everytime I go to a charity book sale I've been lucky to find at least one dollhouse or miniature book. The 'big' one I really wait for sucked big time was found to be lacking this year. Everything was dirty and old and I didn't find a single dollhouse book. They overcharged for the manga and wouldn't haggle with me either. On the last day I ventured into their 'garage sale' of sorts and the woman greeted me with, "Everything's half off!"
I found a bag of sewing notions that also had some grea...

Confessions of a Craftaholic

March 30, 2009
Yes, I admit it. I'm addicted to glue and paint. The texture and weight of a brand new yard of fabric is pure ecstasy. I'm also a packrat. These things together equal massive clutter and piles of crafting supplies hidden behind my couch. This last weekend I have taken steps, not to deter my quirk...no, but to better organize what I have and make some room for possible future purchases. There were extra benefits to this industriousness that I had not planned on. When it's time to move, it will...
